We want to make sure you’re able to celebrate Juneteenth—no matter where you are.

The days of celebrating Fourth of July, adorning the American flag and popping red, white and blue fireworks to celebrate an Independence, or “freedom” our people still don’t truly hold til this day—are over.  Many of us have been educated on Juneteenth and have chosen to trade in our fresh fits and forces, for kente cloth and sandals—expressing our liberation in more ways than one.  It has become a beautiful sight to see and returning to its rightful home as tradition.

Over the years Juneteenth celebrations have surfaced all over and it has become widely celebrated, honoring the true freedom of Africans in America.  We are all aware that even with the passing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, enslaved Africans still weren’t free.  It wasn’t until two years later on June 19, 1865 that enslaved Africans received their true freedom, and independence in this great ole’ U.S. of A.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration to commemorate the end of slavery in the US.  With it taking a back seat to the “Independence Day” that America calls its own—It is now making a come back due to a generation who is unapologetic ally breaking generational curses.  Acknowledging that their history differs from that of the “American Dream.”

Many will be celebrating Juneteenth or learning about it and looking for a Community to celebrate along with.  So, we’re sharing this list of Juneteenth celebrations happening from the East to West Coast and we’d love for you to share your experiences on the app!
